Introduction

Rough currency conversions are needed constantly when pricing products, planning travel or reading foreign invoices. The Currency Exchange Calculator converts an amount between nine currencies using a fixed table of approximate reference rates against the US dollar. The rates are stored inside the tool rather than fetched from a live market feed, so results are indicative and the conversion happens entirely in the browser.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Type the figure to convert in the Amount to Convert field (minimum 1).
  2. Pick the source currency in the From Currency dropdown.
  3. Pick the target currency in the To Currency dropdown.
  4. Read the Converted Amount card, which shows the result to two decimal places with the target currency code.
  5. Note the line below the result, which shows the implied rate for 1 unit of the source currency to four decimal places.

Key Use Cases

  • Travel Budgeting: Convert a daily spending allowance from INR to EUR before a trip.
  • Invoice Sanity Check: Confirm a supplier quote in CHF is in the expected range in USD.
  • Price Localisation: Estimate what a USD subscription price looks like in GBP, CAD or AUD.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the exchange rates live?

No. The tool uses a fixed set of approximate reference rates against USD that is built into the page, and it does not call any exchange rate service. Use the result as an estimate and check a bank or broker for the rate you will actually be charged.

Which currencies are supported?

Nine currencies are available in both dropdowns: USD, EUR, GBP, INR, CAD, AUD, JPY, CHF and CNY. Any pair can be selected, including the same currency on both sides, which returns the original amount.

How is a cross rate such as GBP to JPY calculated?

Every conversion goes through USD. The amount is divided by the source currency's USD rate, then multiplied by the target currency's USD rate, and the result is rounded to two decimal places.
