Introduction

SVG files exported from design tools often carry editor comments and indentation that add bytes without changing the drawing. The SVG Code Optimizer removes XML comments and the whitespace between tags from pasted markup and shows the compact result side by side with the original. The transformation is two text replacements that run in the browser as you type.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Paste the vector markup into the Raw SVG Code Input box, replacing the sample circle.
  2. Watch the Clean Minified SVG panel update immediately with comments removed.
  3. Confirm that indentation and line breaks between tags have been collapsed so the markup sits on one line.
  4. Click Copy SVG to place the minified code on the clipboard.
  5. Paste the result into an inline svg element, a sprite file or a data URI.

Key Use Cases

  • Inline Icons: Trim an exported icon before embedding it directly in HTML.
  • Sprite Sheets: Clean several symbols before combining them into one sprite file.
  • Email and CMS Fields: Collapse multi-line markup into a single line for editors that reject line breaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does the optimizer remove?

It strips every XML comment block and any run of whitespace that sits between a closing > and an opening <, then trims leading and trailing space. Attributes, element names, ids, metadata elements and path data are left exactly as they were.

Does it shorten path data or merge shapes like SVGO?

No. The tool does not parse the SVG; it applies text replacements only. Path coordinates, precision, editor namespaces and unused defs stay in place, so the size reduction is limited to comments and inter-tag whitespace.

Can collapsing whitespace break my SVG?

Whitespace between tags is not rendered, so the drawing is unaffected. Whitespace inside text elements that spans across a tag boundary, for example between tspan elements, is removed too, which can join words that were separated only by a line break.
